KP Fabrication & Welding was formed in 1996, with owners Phil Jones and Kevin Hilgert combining more than 40 years experience in aluminium and steel fabrication for the transport industry. Phil started in the industry in 1977, undertaking a boilermaker apprenticeship in his hometown Kellerberrin. After completing his apprenticeship in the WA Wheatbelt town, Phil moved to Perth and found a job working for Kevin. After working for Kevin over a few years, Phil expanded his fabrication and welding experience by moving to the northwest to work in the mining industry and then returned to Perth to work in the boatyards. 16 years after the pair first worked together, Phil and Kevin were working on a shared contracting job when they “got chatting”. Hours later, they had formed the bare shell concept of what is known as KP Fabrication & Welding Pty Ltd. today, on nothing more than a handshake and goodwill. As fate would have it, KP Fabrication & Welding is now considered Perth’s premier alloy and metals workshop serving the transport industry with an arsenal of experience, knowledge and the latest equipment.
