The following is just one example. A few years ago we supplied a Windows(tm) system to a company that provides short-term rental of technical equipment. Their rental contracts were generally for a few days or weeks with a very few monthly terms. A few months later they approached us with a request to manage their repairs - they repair both their own equipment and their customers'. The Repair business shares customers with the Rental Business, saving us time and them expense because we don't have to write another Customer system just for the Repair business. When items are received for repair a 'receipt' needs to be printed for the customer. More than one item can be received at a time and each needs to be tracked. Items received for repair may, or may not, include 'attachments'. For example; if your cell-phone needs repair you may take in its case, its charger or the complete box it came in. Each of these attachments is tracked along with the item being repaired allowing our customer to know what is to be returned to the their customer. Items may be repaired in-house or they may be sent to a third-party for repair. Both sending of items for repair and their receipt back are tracked. Items may be returned to the customer individually or all at once. Returns are tracked and enquiries are available showing which items are outstanding. As Returns are made, a 'return notice' is attached to the item as it is passed to the customer. Billing is completed as required, there are standard billing items which can be used to speed-up the billing process but one-off items may be added to the bill. 'Jobbing' is a new module we have added to 'RentWare', a web-based solution running in Google's(tm) Cloud. The customer was supplied with a website link, some training and they were working.
