Last Thursday, we were delighted to officially launch Accelerator. It’s a partnership of six experienced design consultants committed to streamlining the workflow from pre-construction to the construction-ready stage. Accelerator is made up of the following companies: Context – Architecture, urban design, landscape architecture, sustainability, iwi engagement and digital services. Mitchell Vranjes - Structural Engineers – Structural engineering. WOODS – Civil engineering and planning. CMW Geosciences – Geotechnical engineering and geosciences. TM Consultants – Service and fire engineering. DeWet&Co – Quantity surveyors. Our aim is to support developers' evolving needs by delivering designs for quality residential developments quickly and cost-efficiently via a collaborative, holistic project management process. Rather than following the traditional design-and-build model, we use a combination of easy-to-follow design guides, comprehensive QA checklists, and automated design and drawing tools to deliver consistent, durable, efficient, and constructible solutions. We offer three types of structural materials – timber, masonry block or concrete – providing off-the-shelf packages with significant savings and time efficiencies at the design and construction stages. Our role is to: - Share our knowledge with developers and involve them in the design process. - Utilise a LEAN business model. - Where possible, incorporate repeatable designs. - Provide a consistent team. - Ensure that site learnings, automation and efficiencies from other projects are shared. - Embrace simple, quality designs, drawings, materials and building methodologies to reduce building costs and cost overruns. - Utilise BIM and digital technologies to provide transparency by giving clients 24-hour access to all 3D models and drawings. - Offer a simple, repeatable process in a collaborative shared space environment. We are delighted to be working on our first Accelerator project and will keep you informed of our progress. If you would like to find out more about Accelerator, email sean@acceleratornz.com #design #buildingefficiencies #innovationbydesign

The great thing about working in such a diverse company is that we get to learn new techniques and different design approaches from around the world. Here, Context's Landscape Architect, Rafael Miranda, talks about the benefits of retrofit landscaping, having worked on several projects in his home country of Brazil. If you think you know about the possibilities of landscape architecture, it might be time to think again. #retrolandscaping #designinnovation #designforlife https://lnkd.in/etU7Y79Y

A shout out to the fantastic contractors helping to build warmer, drier, healthier homes for Kiwis more efficiently. The HDS programme that Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities is running continues apace, and we're delighted to be part of this groundbreaking initiative. #designinnovation #buildingcommunities #designforlife

It was lovely attending the blessing to mark the completion of our Churton Crescent development in Taita, Lower Hutt on Friday. Huge props to Miles Construction and the Kāinga Ora - Homes and Communities Housing Delivery System team for your work to deliver these homes 🙌 This is just one of the three developments completed last week in the Wellington region 💜 We have quite a few projects completing in the coming weeks, which is super exciting. We love seeing families walking through their homes for the first time and the joy that comes with it ✨️ If you're interested in what we're building, you can find all the latest information through our interactive maps - https://lnkd.in/e6iK86-S

We were very lucky to be joined at lunchtime by former Green Party co-leader James Shaw. The outgoing MP talked to our team about their role in shaping the future of design in New Zealand and shared his views on renewable energy, NZ carbon neutral targets and the amount of work that needs to be done to reverse the climate damage we have created. It's not all doom and gloom; there's plenty of opportunity for our urban designers, masterplanners and architects as we design for the future. #climatechange #sustainability #design #designforlife

With a growing emphasis on environmental conservation and building sustainability, regulatory requirements are evolving to incentivise green building practices. But it seems we have some way to go. Andrew E. posted an interesting listen on the need for residential and commercial properties to have health and energy efficiency ratings. At Context, we’re committed to excellence and sustainability; we understand how to design healthier, drier, energy-efficient buildings. Most days I am asked when the building code will be improved so that buyers, renters and investors can get a sense of the health and energy efficiency of their potential home. So it was a pleasure to talk with Eloise Gibson on this on RNZ and to hear Steven Evans echo the thoughts of many with a call for energy performance certificates. Most of the OECD has had these for over 15 years. https://lnkd.in/gT-mdAk7 The more transparent we are about where carbon is created the better we can managing it. The Building for Climate Change programme was launched in 2020, over 1200 days ago. It is time to get this moving. #health #carbon #livingcosts #overheating #climatecrisis #homes #healthy NZGBC
