Today we reflect on this valuable kōrero Dave Letele shares with our Tumu Whakarae Dr Hana O’Regan highlighting the need for transformation in our communities, and why we need to be aware of inequity around us. Dave poses the question, "When you lack money and support, what choices remain?" This conversation encourages self reflection, inspiring us to be a part of instrumental change in Aotearoa. Schools can be a difficult place for gender-diverse students. This group of precious young people has been described by some as ‘the sharp end of the sharp end of vulnerability’ and their voices reinforce the need for all of us to commit to being allies to create safe and inclusive spaces for all. Leadership Lab NZ is thrilled to be co-hosting a public workshop for teachers, leaders and Boards of Trustees entitled "Showing Up for Gender-Diverse Ākonga" on Tuesday May 28th from 4:00pm–7:30pm https://lnkd.in/gk3wMUta We are committed to this kaupapa as it aligns with our core value of mana ōrite – equity for all and does this through amplifying marginalised voices for advocacy to promote system change. This equity and inclusion focused hui is part of the Grow Waitaha programme https://lnkd.in/g3feYGN - a multiyear partnership between Leadership Lab NZ and Ministry of Education New Zealand, Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu Evaluation Associates | Te Huinga Kākākura Mātauranga and Tātai Aho Rau Core Education. Our previous work in this area includes writing a comprehensive recommendations resource -“Inclusion of Gender Diverse Ākonga: Recommendations for Schools” https://lnkd.in/gfnCbSv7 and a summary action plan or poutama https://lnkd.in/gX-9nA-w In November 2022 we facilitated a previous hui https://lnkd.in/gbGuHZDC and produced three highlights videos including Lex Davis https://lnkd.in/g8G7kfzJ, Jordan Mayes https://lnkd.in/guMcdSNW and a discussion panel https://lnkd.in/gZ8KjMWC Please check out this new video below which summarises the reason why we are doing this work and some of the ways we hope that it makes a positive impact. We would love to see you at the hui.
