Te Onopoto / Taylors Mistake is sublime today. It is a special place to many of our team. Pictured at the bottom of the image is the Surf Lifesaving clubhouse. It was rebuilt as the old facility was no longer safe post the 2010/11 earthquakes in Canterbury. We were proud to provide professional services to this critically important community service for their rebuild. The club members not only provide surf patrols in the summer but are often also involved in search and rescue, as well as providing general medical support to walkers, mountain bikers and others enjoying this special place year-round. Director Elliot Duke and Acting Marketing Director Amy Carter are active volunteer members of the club. Davis Ogilvie has also planted over 700 natives in the valley. Christchurch City Council, Department of Conservation (DOC) and local landowners have been collectively working to reestablish endemics in the bay and the surrounding headlands and we were happy to support this. Taylors Mistake and the Boulder Bay/Godley Head track are one of the most used recreational areas within Christchurch. #thinkplando #CommunitySupportMatters #giveback Tony Lindbom Russell Benge Kirsten Hall

Davis Ogilvie proudly hosted a Pink Ribbon Breakfast yesterday, raising over $2500 for Breast Cancer Foundation NZ. This is personal to us with staff with a number having mothers, sisters, grandmas, aunties, family and friends who have been affected by the disease.   Previous years we have attended external events but this year we brought it inhouse with an onsite breakfast.   We support the Breast Cancer Foundation NZ's vision to reach zero deaths from breast cancer. Every dollar raised supports the Foundation's mission in early detection, treatment and support. #ThinkPlanDO Elliot Duke Russell Benge Amy Carter Kirsten Hall

Davis Ogilvie is proud to announce we have now been a carbonzero organisation for 10 years running! The environment is important to us; therefore we make it a priority to minimise our impact as much as possible while still carrying out our day to day business. Some of the ways we have minimised our emissions include: - Introducing hybrid vehicles to our fleet 🔋 - Using biodiesel in our Utes ⛽ - Installing solar panels at our offices 🌞 - Managing our waste stream 🌱 Our power and transport emissions account for a large part of our carbon footprint, so minimising these items is key for us. Emissions we are unable to reduce are mitigated with the purchase of certified carbon credits. We are proud of our achievements to date and look forward to continuing on our path of carbon emission reduction in the future! Thank you to the team at Toitū for your support over the last 10 years. 🌟

Many of you will be aware that I’ve recently stepped down from my Chief Executive role. This was a planned decision for me to find more (to use a current overused catch phrase) balance. Advice from my inner circle has been not to rush, to take time to consider my next step and to rest up a bit. I am listening to this but I’m also very aware that I need to do something “worky” not only to keep my brain ticking over but because so much of how I perceive myself is attached to my professional life.  So, I wrote a short list of things that any new opportunity had to include, ·   Only working with people I like, something I refer to as the beer test. E.g. would I want to have a beer with these people outside of work hours? ·    It must be doing something that was interesting and where I can make a difference. ·    I no longer wanted to be the boss but still want to be operating at a strategic level. ·    Working for an entity that is great at what they do, and where ethics and people are valued. ·    That any commitment right now was not forever and not fulltime.   I’m thrilled to share that I’ve taken on a six-month contract working a couple of days a week for Davis Ogilvie (DO). DO were a client in the past, and they ticked all the boxes. I’m helping them build their communication and marketing capabilities, in preparation to support a soon to be appointed in house resource. Given how much of my consulting career was spent working with or for engineers and planners this feels like a return to my roots. A well-worn steel cap boot so to speak. Thanks to Elliot Duke, Russell Benge and Tony Lindbom for having me! If you are in the market for some practical support on your new build, renovation, land development or infrastructure project then DM me, I know some people! As for the rest of my time along with a bit of ongoing advocacy for The Christchurch Foundation I am enjoying school pickups and after school sport runs. Not so high on my to do list is the endless cycle of dishwasher emptying and filling, so I suspect it won’t be long before I am looking to fill in a couple more days. #newrole #backtomyroots Kirsten Hall #thinkplanDO

Recently our wonderful Principal Civil Engineer, Sophie South was the star of an article published in the Institute of Directors Boardroom magazine, Autumn 2024 edition. Sophie was selected for a scholarship which was awarded and supported by SWR Group NZ Limited and the Institute of Directors, to develop governance capability in the not-for-profit sector. The scholarship funded a place on the IoD Company Director’s Course, a 5-day intensive residential programme. Well done Sophie! 🌠
